Having been a major part of the introduction of the Mondello Park Fiesta Championship in 2013 Patch Tyre Equipment will once again join forces with the County Kildare circuit to back the new for 2016 Fiesta ST Championship. Market leading Tyre Trade suppliers ‘Patch Tyre Equipment’ are a long term Motorsport supporter having previously been involved in rallying before bringing their support to circuit racing through the Fiesta Championship, Rallycross and now into the exciting new Fiesta ST series. The new Fiesta class for ST 150 Models built between 2004 and 2008 will run alongside the current Fiesta class and aims to provide a stepping stone for current Fiesta drivers as well as new drivers looking to go racing on a limited budget. Like the class for less powerful 1250cc Fiestas the championship remain under the control of Mondello Park and will stick with a near standard car and tightly controlled regulations.
Speaking on the announcement of their involvement with the series, Patch Tyre Equipment’s Managing Director Brian Matthews said: “We have always had an involvement with rallying with the MacHale Rally Team and in 2013 we made our first foray into circuit racing when we became involved with Mondello Park’s Fiesta Championship. This proved hugely successful and the benefits to us were palpable with increased sales of our own branded Patch Tyre Equipment, Tyre and Garage equipment range, and with the huge social media exposure of the series. After two enjoyable years, we ended the association and continued to support our rally programmes, currently with Aaron MacHale, Jack Newman and Robert Barrable. The launch of the new Fiesta ST Series is, like the Patch Fiesta class three years ago, something completely different and we are delighted to be involved again with Mondello Park. I have even bought a Fiesta myself and enjoyed my first season racing and rallycrossing, maybe some day I will join the ST series too!”
Mondello Park General Manager Roddy Greene said: “Early indications are 2016 will be an exciting year for racing in Ireland and especially here at Mondello Park. We are excited about the new Fiesta ST class which will be a welcome addition to the grid for 2016. A lot of work has gone into the new class to ensure that we have competitive racing and we are looking forward to seeing what the Fiesta ST’s serve up. Patch Tyre Equipment Ltd are no strangers to Mondello Park as previous sponsors of the Zetec Fiesta class in 2013 and 2014. It is great to have them back on board as sponsor for the Fiesta ST class and I am looking forward to working with Patch Tyre Equipment Ltd in the year ahead.”
The Patch Tyre Equipment Fiesta ST Championship kicks off at Mondello Park on April 17th and a strong grid of cars is expected for the first event, made up of 1250cc Fiesta graduates and more experienced racers from other series. With many intending competitors having only recently started to prepare their cars, grids are expected to grow as the season progresses.
