In the luxurious surrounds of the Intercontinental Hotel, Dublin, DS launched its new SUV, the DS 7 Crossback. The DS 7 Crossback is the first of a new generation of models to be introduced to the Irish market. Speaking at the press launch yesterday, Pat Ryan, Managing Director DS Automobiles Ireland announced that the DS brand will launch one new product per year. By 2025 one third of its sales with be electrified vehicles.

The DS 7 is a striking looking SUV, aided by signature head lights and tail lights, something the original model boasted in 1955. The interior is both spacious and luxurious. To increase comfort there is an optional DS active scan suspension on offer, this system anticipates defects in the road through a camera that detects bumps and potholes five metres ahead and continuously and independently controls the four shock absorbers to make them firmer or softer.

The key volume seller is expected to be the Performance Line BlueHDi 180 variant, complete with an eight-speed automatic transmission, this retails at €49,745. This is the model we had a brief test-drive in yesterday and it’s fair to say it would be our model of choice. That said, the entry-level DS 7 Crossback Elegance at €36,000 represents excellent value for money when you consider the generous level of standard specification which includes, 18-inch alloy wheels, gloss black door mirrors, 8-inch touchscreen display, DAB radio and a 555-litre boot luggage capacity. Customers can also choose from three further trim grades, Performance Line, Prestige Line and Ultra Prestige.

A PHEV model will arrive in the first quarter of 2020, it will have 300 horsepower and 450Nm of torque and have a 50Km range in electric mode.
