Some sixty years after Mercedes-Benz launched their first SL, the latest version arrives in Ireland. It’s longer and wider then its predecessor and boasts a newly restyled grille and headlights. There are two models available, the SL350 which is powered by a 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine that produces 302hp and the SL500 complete with a 4.7-litre V8 petrol engine boasting 429hp. Prices have yet to be confirmed but we expect them to commence from €140,000 for the SL350. Mercedes-Benz has improved the fuel consumption over the previous model, they’ve introduced an ECO start/stop function as standard on both versions. Both cars are also fitted with a seven-speed automatic gearbox. There are a host of optional extras available, including a retractable panoramic sunroof that switches from light to dark at the push of a button.
