Land Rover is to introduce the world’s first 9-speed automatic transmission, which will be debuted in the 2014 model year Range Rover Evoque. This will go on sale later this year. The benefit of increasing the number of gear ratios is improved fuel consumption and a reduction in CO2 emissions. Commenting on the new transmission, John Edwards, Land Rover Global Brand Director said, “We are extremely excited about the 9HP which has been tailored exactly to dovetail with the unique attributes of our vehicles. It will add another layer of performance, refinement and efficiency to the Evoque, further enhancing its world class abilities”. This new gearbox will be first seen in the Range Rover Evoque, a successful model that’s already sold in excess of 140,000 units since it was launched in September 2011.
