Volkswagen has released some details of its most powerful Golf, the new Golf R which will appear at next month’s Frankfurt Motor Show. Powering it is a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine which produces 300hp and 380Nm of torque. It transfers its power to the road via Volkswagen’s 4MOTION four-wheel drive system. As a result it can accelerate to 100km/h from a standstill in just 5.3 seconds. It sits 5mm lower than the GTI, adaptive chassis control will be available as an option. Prices will commence from around €53,000.
