Opel’s most powerful front-wheel drive car, the new Astra OPC Extreme will be unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show this week. Derived from last year’s Astra Cup race car that competed in the Nürburgring Endurance Championship, the EXTREME is the lighter, more powerful street-legal race sibling to the current Astra OPC. Its 2.0-litre turbo-charged petrol engine produces 300hp and is mated to a six-speed manual transmission complete with a limited-slip differential. Opel has used carbon fibre components throughout in order to reduce the car’s weight. The interior has been stripped of the rear seats, with a roll cage in their place, up front there’s a pair of Recaro bucket seats and race harnesses. Here’s hoping we can get our hands on one soon to see if it can beat the current leader on our hot hatch laptime chart.
