Highly regarded champion touring car racer Erik Holstein is to contest the 2016 SEAT Supercup Ireland. The former Irish Touring Car Champion is teaming up with the reigning SEAT Supercup champions Murray Motorsport, reforming a partnership that previously brought the pairing the 2013 ITCC title. Racing with the Dublin race team, who claimed the inaugural Leon Supercopa based championship with Niall Murray last year, Holstein goes into 2016 as a title favourite with his main rivalry expected to come from 2015 race winners Niall Quinn and Rod McGovern. Supported by international online motorsport store Murraymotorsport.com, the County Kildare driver’s full time return to racing has also attracted backing from the Naas Court Hotel.

Commenting on the deal that will put him behind the wheel of Niall Murray’s championship winning Supercopa, Holstein said, ‘I am delighted to have an opportunity to race in this exciting SEAT class. I had a brief taste of it last year and am looking forward to working with Murray Motorsport again. It will be a tough act to follow what Niall achieved last year, as I haven’t even sat in the car yet! But I can’t wait until the first round and getting stuck into it. It should be great racing.’ In preparation for his new campaign, Holstein will conduct a one day testing with the team on Wednesday (13th April).

Supported by SEAT Ireland and Yokohama tyres, the 12 round SEAT Supercup runs over 6 events, the first of which takes place this weekend (April 17) at Mondello Park. The first of two events when the 301 BHP SEAT Sport factory built Leons race on the national track of the County Kildare race circuit, both of Sunday’s opening two rounds will be streamed live on Mondello TV.
