Following the reinstatement of excise duty on August 1st, fuel prices were expected to rise. However, the average petrol price only increased slightly by 1 cent to €1.81 per litre, while diesel prices are steady at €1.74 per litre. Crude oil prices are slightly lower this month at $80 per barrel. Electric vehicle owners can expect to pay an average of €916 per year to cover the national average of 17,000 km per year, which is an increase of €39 per year month on month.
Jennifer Kilduff, Head of Marketing & PR for the AA (Ireland), said, “We saw a slight increase again in petrol this month, but the price of diesel has remained steady which is great to see. Average monthly charging costs for EV drivers have increased this month as a result of providers reversing the decreases we saw in July. It will be interesting to see how the next few months go and what budget 2025 will bring for the motorist.”
