Honda now offers its Accord customers more choice with its latest edition to the Accord range, this Type S performance version. Visually the Type S is distinguished from the standard Accord by its ‘Aero’ body kit which consists of aero sports bumpers front and rear, side sills and large 18” wheels. There’s more to the Type S then just looks, underneath the skin the car’s fitted with sports suspension and a tweaked chassis which improve the driving dynamics of the car. Honda’s engineers have also tuned the 2.2l diesel engine to produce 180hp and deliver 380Nm of torque. This results in a car that handles and drives more like one of Honda’s sporting petrol Type R models, but with the distinct advantage of offering great fuel economy, thanks to the use of an efficient diesel engine. It uses a slick six-speed manual gearbox which is pleasant to use and will return a combined average fuel consumption of 5.6l/100km and produces just 147g/km of CO2, resulting in tax band C placement.

The interior of the Accord Type S is finished to Honda’s customary high values, with a vast amount of electric equipment fitted as standard. Just some of these many features include electrically adjustable heated leather seats, dual-zone climate control, Bluetooth and satellite navigation. The ergonomics are a strong point inside the Type S, spending a long time inside this car is not something you’ll easily tire of. What Honda have done with the Accord Type S diesel, is to tweak the standard car visually and technically, resulting in a car with a wider appeal and one that certainly makes a strong case for driving a performance diesel over a petrol powered model.

The €39,465 Accord Type S provides comfort and economy in a stylish package that also offers an involved driving experience.
