Jaguar has launched its uber-sleek SUV onto the Irish market, with the arrival of its all-new F-PACE. It certainly has the looks both externally and internally to challenge its closest premium SUV competitors. Principally these include the Audi Q5, BMW X4, Lexus NX, Mercedes-Benz GLC and Volvo’s XC60. Interestingly there are two models within Jaguar Land Rover’s stable that may also compete for sales of the F-PACE, in the form of the Land Rover Discovery Sport and Range Rover Evoque.

The front of the F-PACE takes some design cues from the sports Jaguar F-Type two-seater car, the lines flow smoothly to the rear aiding the F-Pace’s dynamic appearance. The interior is spacious along with an immense boot. The instrument panel boasts clear easy to view dials, the familiar Jaguar gear selector rises automatically out of the centre console on start-up. The touchscreen infotainment system is extremely user friendly and a joy to use. You do however have to move up the trim levels to benefit from luxurious finishes, the base models have hard plastics for some of the interior finishes surrounding the centre console and door cards. There are four trim specifications on offer, Pure, Prestige, Portfolio and R-Sport, with prices commencing from €44,100 though we would recommend our test car as the key seller, this 2.0-litre turbo diesel Prestige variant takes advantage of an all-wheel-drive setup with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

All passengers are offered ample space and comfort, the driving position is central with excellent all-round visibility. The 2.0-litre turbo diesel unit produces 180hp and 430Nm of torque, it offers ample performance for daily driving, although it can seem a tad noisy at times. The F-Pace is enjoyable to drive on motorways and country roads, it’s surefooted and provides you with admirable feedback through the chunky sports steering wheel. The chassis and suspension cope with all road surfaces ensuring all passengers enjoy a stable and comfortable ride.

Jaguar’s first foray into the premium SUV market has to be commended for producing a striking and elegant SUV, on looks alone the F-Pace will surely attract motorists into their showrooms.
