Irishman Karl Leonard showed blistering paced at the recent rounds of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship, taking two dominate wins in the Pro-Am1 category in his rev.ie backed Porsche 911 GT3. Round 7 took place at the picturesque Oulton Park circuit in Cheshire, where Michael Meadows claimed the race win from Dan Lloyd and Dean Stoneman. After a post-race penalty demoted Stoneman, Karl Leonard achieved a hugely impressive third overall to win Pro-Am1, and Peter Smallwood topped Pro-Am2. Commenting after the race Michael Meadows (Samsung Smart Motorsport) said, “We’ve been quick all weekend and you’ve got to capitalise on weekends like this. It was not as convincing as in qualifying, but we were never going to win it by a lot.” Pro-Am1 winner and third overall Karl Leonard commented, “I could see the top three Pros for most of the race. I was so far ahead in Pro-Am1 that I didn’t want to push too hard. There was nothing in it when Rory Butcher was chasing me and my car was really good.”

Meadow’s was to claim victory once again in round 8 and therefore regaining the championship lead. He crossed the line ahead of Lloyd and Butcher. Karl Leonard topped the Pro-Am1 class with Peter Smallwood winning the Pro-Am2 category. Commenting after the race Meadows said, “Fantastic! That was really excellent and we’re certainly going in the right direction. The guys keep giving me a good car.” Karl Leonard commented, “Two wins is a great result. I just made a few mistakes in the first couple of laps and that was when the gap came to the Pro drivers. But I was catching them at the end.” The next round of the 2013 Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship takes place this weekend at the Croft circuit in North Yorkshire on the 22-23 June.
