Opel’s new Astra Saloon has arrived in Opel dealerships nationwide, with prices commencing from €19,495. This new saloon variant joins the Astra five-door, sports tourer station wagon and the three-door GTC coupé to complete the Astra line-up. A host of technologies that have been previously seen in the Insignia and Zafira Tourer are available for the new Astra, these include, the second generation Opel Eye front camera, lane departure warning (LDW), following distance indication (FDI) and forward collision alert (FCA).
The new Astra is available with petrol and diesel engines, the 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine produces 140hp and features an over-boost function which temporarily gives the car an extra 10 per cent of torque, ideal for overtaking. The 1.7-litre CDTI ecoFLEX diesel engine is available across two power outputs, 110hp and 130hp. Both these units emit just 99g/km of CO2 which places them in tax band A. The rang-topping Astra OPC develops an impressive 280hp from its turbocharged petrol engine.
Commenting on the new Opel Astra, Dave Sheeran, Managing Director, Opel Ireland said, “The compact segment represents 30% of all cars sold in the Irish market today. The Astra is Opel’s biggest seller and we believe that new Astra, in particular the Saloon, delivers a superior design, value and quality German engineering alternative to other saloons in the market today.”
