Peugeot’s all-new 508 GT is achingly beautiful from any angle, it looks similar to a concept car unveiled at a motor show. Up front, it distinguishes itself with vertical LED daytime running lights and encompasses a signature black rear lamp cluster that spans the full width of the boot. The interior doesn’t disappoint either, it’s a fabulous cabin, with a ten-inch touchscreen to control all the climate and infotainment systems. Rear headroom is somewhat restricted due to the sloping roofline.

Our test car was the high-spec GT variant so a few added luxuries are included, these consist of 3D navigation, massage seats, focal premium hi-fi system, smartphone charging plate, full led headlights, 18” two-tone alloy wheels, along with a host of safety equipment such as advanced automatic emergency braking with distance alert and road edge detection.

So, we’ve established the Peugeot 508 is a real eye-catcher, so what’s it like to drive? Pretty good to be honest, it has a competent chassis that handles with confidence. It might not give quite the same feedback as some German rivals however it’s a pleasure to drive. Our car was powered by Peugeot’s 1.6-litre THP petrol engine, mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. A 1.6-litre engine may seem slight for a car of this size, but don’t be fooled, it produces a very healthy 225 horsepower, coupled with low emissions it only costs €270 for annual road tax. There are two diesel-powered alternatives, a 1.5-litre BlueHDi with 130 horsepower, priced from €32,510 and a 2.0-litre BlueHDi with 180hp, priced from €38,890.

The new 508 is available across four trim grades, Active, Allure, GT Line and GT, with prices commencing from €32,510. There is also now an SW – station wagon variant on offer from €34,110.

It’s clear to everyone that Peugeot’s designers have excelled with the new 508, it has the looks and package to compete with the likes of the Audi A5 Sportback and the BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe. It’s an exciting time for Peugeot, let’s hope they continue to launch new stylish models like the 508 GT.
