BYD continues to strengthen its presence in Ireland with the introduction of its fifth model in just two years. The all-new BYD Sealion 7, a striking mid-size SUV, made its local debut at Johnstown Estate, Co. Kildare. Available through dealers nationwide, the Sealion 7 offers three fully electric variants, catering to different preferences and driving needs. The range begins with the rear-wheel-drive ‘Comfort’ edition, while two all-wheel-drive models, ‘Design’ and ‘Excellence,’ provide enhanced performance and equipment levels. Pricing starts at €45,435 for the entry-level Comfort model, making the Sealion 7 an attractive proposition in the EV market.
The Sealion 7 is a standout addition to BYD’s ‘Ocean Series’ design language. With an increase of 160mm in height and 30mm in length compared to its sibling, the BYD Seal, this SUV offers generous interior space while maintaining an aerodynamic, streamlined silhouette. BYD describes its design as a fusion of sporty performance and stylish aesthetics. Measuring 4,830mm in length with a 2,930mm wheelbase, the Sealion 7 boasts a sleek, low-slung front end, sculpted bonnet, and flowing roofline, culminating in a subtle rear spoiler and full-width taillight arrangement. The SUV is available with 19” or 20” alloy wheels, depending on trim level. Practicality is well catered for, with a 520-litre boot that expands to 1,789 litres when the rear seats are folded, plus a 58-litre front trunk (‘frunk’) and over 20 cabin storage compartments.
Inside, the Sealion 7 delivers a premium feel, with high-quality materials and a host of cutting-edge features. Standard equipment includes front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree camera, adaptive cruise control, traffic-sign recognition, and intelligent speed-limit control. A standout feature is the 15.6-inch rotating infotainment screen, running BYD’s latest software with a full 3D vehicle rendering. This allows passengers to control functions such as windows and doors via an intuitive visual interface. The cabin also includes ventilated and heated front seats, ergonomically designed rear seats, a four-way adjustable steering wheel, and an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat with lumbar support. Double-layered laminated front glass and rear privacy glass provide sound and heat insulation, while a panoramic sunroof with an electric blind enhances comfort and natural lighting.
The Sealion 7 is designed for a connected driving experience, supporting Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, as well as BYD’s ‘Hi BYD’ voice assistant, which allows occupants to adjust cabin temperature, control entertainment, and manage navigation through voice commands. For performance enthusiasts, the Excellence model boasts a rapid 0-100 km/h acceleration time of just 4.5 seconds. Drivers can choose from four driving modes – Eco, Normal, Sport, and Snow – to suit different road conditions and driving preferences.
Like its predecessors, the Sealion 7 is powered by BYD’s in-house developed 82.5 kWh cobalt-free Blade Battery. The Comfort and Design versions offer WLTP ranges of 482km and 456km, respectively, with a rapid 10%-80% charge time of just 32 minutes. The Excellence model features a larger 91.3 kWh battery, extending the range to 502km, with an even quicker 10%-80% charging time of 24 minutes. All models come equipped with 11 kW three-phase AC charging as standard.
BYD’s Cell-to-Body (CTB) battery integration enhances safety, structural rigidity, and interior space. A high-efficiency heat pump system regulates battery and cabin temperatures while recycling excess heat from the powertrain, optimising energy efficiency—especially in colder climates.
